THE WAY YOU ARE

I awoke happy this morning

Not in an excessive way

Just the right amount

Adding an upward twitch

to the corners of my smile

There had been no dream

No cause and effect

Yet perhaps 

in that fleeting second

when my eyelids fluttered

and the mind sputtered

I might have seen a flash

A dash of bliss, 

to the calm beginning

that played continuous

until echos bounced in harmony

A work of art strummed along

to the lyrics of a song

Every word in a perfect place

stitched to successive images

that did not disappear with time

or diminish with distance

Every image unleashing a force

A force so strong

that  from deep within

it set off an effervescence

A natural bubbling

of positivity

that soothed wounds

and healed scars

Bending the rules of engagement

Hidden in lyrical subtext
Bringing in fresh perspective

I awoke happy this morning
