Antara's Poetry
August 12, 2018
When I wake up, I shall see your face
even though your eyes will do nothing but stare
Your fur as if soft as lace
I love you, though you are a soft, stuffed bear
You smile like the stars will always twinkle
and when you grow old there won't be a wrinkle
But you will always be there, to sleep by my side
As I wake up in the morning with your face in the light

Soon we evolved, and our minds began to wander
Man needed food, turns out the little things
that sprung from the ground were edible
Man needed clothes, He took it from the old ones
Man needed warmth, he created destruction
Man now needed answers, he created God

1
Like a group of cells forming a tissue
the children huddle
Like a group of tissues forming an organ
the children grow to realise that they are not the same
and build walls between them to form countries
Like the organs form the body
the many different countries join to form the world
Turns out this "body" has cancer
2 (THE WATER CYCLE)
When water splashes a few droplets rise up only to fall again
Some would say that, that was the last they saw of the world
I would say that as they hit the ground
a new season of their life had began
and soon they would rise up to the sky
only to fall once more
3
You bolted my room
and set me on fire
You just forgot to throw my ashes away
4
Just because the lights were off
It didn't mean you had to make sure
they never turned on again
5
You asked her and she said "No"
She said no and you pour a bucket
of your boiling wrath on me
6
You ask yourself why you suffer
behind the bars of fear
fear of what?
Repetition?
But the only way to escape sometimes
is to cage him
with bars dipped in guilt
and the frown painted with your wrath
7
You said that you would pull me towards the light
Well I don't think the light was on its best manners that night was it?
8
You said you would help
I should have run away and found it myself
But by then your help had already destroyed me
9
When she bent down to pick up
the tiny piece of chocolate
she found another one
right in front of her
She slowly walked closer to the trap
and finally reached the end
where she saw a tall figure
smiling like a wolf
and the last words she heard were
"you've had your share of sweets, now it's my turn"
10
Pushed one against another
from one corner to the next
carried home and then
taken to a place where they all lay still
where all were equal
Yes, they all were equal
when under the ground together
11
She thought she was safe
and her ride back home would be safe too
with her parents waiting for her at home
safe but that day "safe" had just
decided to take the bus back home
12
Happiness has its ways of staying alive !
13
Anger churning inside her
Fear boiling inside her too
And she did not know what to spit out first
the soup or the broth
14
When that one second felt like an hour
the hour decided to feel like a day
15 (THE SEQUEL)
Some of us go to sleep hoping for a great day tomorrow, some praying for a miracle that might never exist, some wishing for gifts in many ways and some wanting a different day from the rest.
A day where all changes, and she is set free to roam till the edge, but never to cross it.
To look over it, do a peer down and wonder about what might be so thrilling as to keep it from her? So extravagant and beautiful that one must maintain its secrecy?
Through this morning she roamed but her mind stayed at the edge
But before she knew it she turned around and off she ran into the edge and into the darkness
she plunged like a starved animal catching its prey, her eyes gleaming with pride.
But soon the pride turned to fear as she realised where she was.
A place where nothing more than scum worked, a place of cruelty and of sadness,
where women worked all daylong.
A place where she would sleep every night wanting a day different from the next.
When I wake up, I shall see your face
even though your eyes will do nothing but stare
Your fur as if soft as lace
I love you, though you are a soft, stuffed bear
You smile like the stars will always twinkle
and when you grow old there won't be a wrinkle
