THE SMILE BEYOND THE PALE
Snowballs during a heatwave hit hard but melt without a trace
Heat waves thrown in winter sears the skin, burns the face
A stony chill caught in a fireplace, Ashes and bones displaced
Subdued doggedly , pursued relentlessly by actions misplaced
A landmine is swift, a quick decapitation of the human body
A word is slow, it tugs the thread that dissociates the human soul
restitution resulting in a poor excuse which cannot make whole
The empty spaces filling the blanks between cups of coffee
Scars remain some seen, some invisible, some real, some imaginary
Wounds heal fast or slow they have the glow, the duress luminary
And the grin or grimace that hides behind the shroud, the veil
Masks disgust as everything vile grows on the smile beyond the pale
Weeds sprouting over a carefully manicured lawn gone to seed
Choking new found blossoms without any necessity or need
Leaving questions lurking behind that will never be defined
By an answer to explain the just or unjust, the cruel or the kind
