ANDALUSIA
The sight of a faraway land arrests the conjurer
stopped by threads spun from expensive gauze
adorning a dancer, shy and tentative yet
dripping in the essence of Andalusia
The music hasn't started and caught in the pause
is breathtaking beauty raw and adorned
in simple folds with a string from the sea
A cluster of Pearls from Andalusia
Would Cano have caught the still moment
in a portrait, perhaps Velasquez
Or sculpted in the marble of Mena
Vying for the prize of Andalusia
A glow bathes the pillars bronzed
unsheathed supports built to captivate
a quickening heart that elevates
to greet the eyes of Andalusia
It would take the strings of Alhambra
plucked with the frenzy of Segovia
to cause the feet to spin a flamenco
set afire on the streets of Andalusia
Oh would you dance today ? Someday perhaps
to the strains of a classical Sevillanas
played beneath the shadow of the desert moon
One magical night in Andalusia
