A BREATH
A breath ever so slight is all that separates
Bathed wonder captured in filtered light
Like the first sight of a rainbow, with
Colour entwined within a romantic poem
The rush of discovery and the pause of awe
Electricity tickling the beaded borders
Hair raising goose flesh of gladiators
In an unfamiliar arena bound by no rules
With no spectators that respect the code
No onlookers to comment on the spectacle
Or decide the outcome before the start
A breath and no more. It starts unshared
And proximity designs a windburned confluence
As life meets the living over the strains of a dirge
Infusing new meaning into the melted merge
Swaying as one, in a concert of twin violins
Plucked with fingers drumming a staccato
To a song stuck in time, stranded in history
Sharing a sentiment lost but not forgotten
Resurrected by the exuberance of abandon
As secrets spun in the artificial chill
Spill over the ballad in the curtained dark
A breath that meanders purposefully and ignites
Passion buried within layers of armour
Tendrils that unfurl like the fronds of a fern
Deliciously tickling the borders of inspiration
Unraveling slowly, the puzzling strictures bestowed
By the universal maze of morality
It escapes and entwines with its mirror image
Playfully conversing with bare mysteries lying therein
Lying concealed, awaiting seductive release
Confidence rising in each unplanned footprint
A breath nonetheless that serves stimulus
Dished on a silver ladle of unbridled impetus
In quantity immeasurable for in its slightest
It melts barriers and dissolves conflict
In its tiniest it holds a whirlwind of wild
Within a cup that wilfully runs over
Its diminutive movement whipping up a storm
That rages against widening cracks in the bark
Unable to contain any further,
the turbulence, the chaos,
And all it takes for liberation
All it takes for dissolution
All it takes,
is that one small breath
